This is quite a standard video activity in which a clip is followed by a number of true or false statements. For this lesson plan, I chose my favourite Muppets charater singing Ode to Joy. Try the activity for yourself.
Watch the following clip - twice if you like - and then scroll down to the true or false statements beolw the screen:
Five of the following statements are false. Can you identify them and can you decide how to correct them?
- Beaker first appears in the top middle square.
- He is wearing a shirt, a tie and a light brown coat.
- He doesn’t have ears.
- He drinks from the glass of water.
- He plays the drum in the bottom right square.
- He plays the violin in the top right square.
- The metronome catches fire.
- Beaker gets an electric shock in the bottom middle square.
- After the glass smashes, the music starts to get faster.
- Beaker falls over when he gets hit on the head by a flying lamp.
In the lesson plan, which can be downloaded on pdf below, the true or false statements are dictated to students. Their task is to write down all the statements but identify the false ones and change them accordingly. Language points include the present simple and the following prepositions: Left, middle, right, top, bottom. There are also three juicy uses of get that students can be shown (’gets faster‘, ‘gets hit on the head‘, ‘gets an electric shock‘).
