I never had a class that didn’t ask if I wear a kilt when I am in my country. I wonder if Mexican teachers working away from home get asked the same thing about sombreros. This is a silly game that I remember from my childhood. I really hope my Mexican friends forgive me for taking advantage of their national dress stereotype in the name of grammar teaching.

Haha! How much fun we had with this activity.
I adore it, and I’ve decided to use it with my pupils tomorrow haha.

Thanks Vanesuka
Glad you liked it. Would be interested to hear how it goes. Jamie =)

Hihi, I remember this game too. much appreciated your introduction and activity for using art on Onestopenglish. I’ve just done something similar with Van Gogh and the ol’ Starry, starry Night song. I’ll sen you the pdf for the song activity. Cheers Roy.
P.S Do you not rather get asked what you don’t wear under your kilt, I dared to ask some rugby supporters in a nice French restaurant and they jumped on the opportunity to do their little dance number and show me! Not too pretty!

Great activity!
I’ve managed to use it both in my English and Spanish classes.
Thanks!

Excellent, I love it and so do my students :) Used a traditional whiteboard, though :)
All the best

Hello Roy
Thanks for your comment
Yes - the ‘What do you wear under your kilt?’question is very dangerous. i hope you have learned your lesson. Have you seen this:

I think I’ve see a Van Gogh ‘Starry starry night’ PDF before. I think there are a few of them around. They are on YouTube as well, which makes them easy to share:

It is a great piece of material.

Thanks Mateja
It’s a good point - the lesson plan could be used to teach any language.

Hello Marta. I am still a traditional white/blackboard person as well.
Glad you like the lesson
Jamie

I enjoyed it much, thank you. But in some cases I managed to forget the drawing :) while reading the text.

That’s a good point Guliya - I hadn’t thought of that. I should have superimposed the text over the images. Oh well, perhaps one day I will change it…
Thanks for the comment
Jamie

Hi, I enjoyed the lesson a lot. But just for the sake of “political correctness” I call the drawing a mariachi, it has worked with me and the class keeps on high spirits, specially when your students are Mexican too :)

Hello Alex
That is a brilliant idea. When did you ever meet a mariachi without a sombrero? I actually wanted to publish this activity in my book but obviously it wasn’t going to happen.
If only we had met before!
Jamie

Something to say?
